The R.M. Gooderham Bursary Program
The R.M. Gooderham Bursary was established in the late 70’s in honour of Mr. R.M. Gooderham, the first General Manager of the CWB Group. Mr. Gooderham served as the General Manager from the inception of the CWB in 1947 to 1973. The Bursary program arose from the need to promote excellence, and encourage career pursuits within the welding fabrication industry.
The CWB has a proud history of providing training and career advancement opportunities for welding practitioners, inspectors and engineers. Applications, together with recommendation letters from the education institutions are vetted by members of the senior management team of the CWB group, who determine the successful candidates, if any.
Bursary Program
The CWB annually offers up to ten (10) two thousand dollar ($2000.00) bursaries to students enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution in one of the following two or three year programs:
- Welding Engineering Technology
- Welding Engineering Technicians
- Welding (Fabrication) Technicians
- Welding Specialist Engineering Techniques
- Manufacturing Engineering Technology with welding specialization
- Welding Diploma / Welding Specialist program
The Bursary is designed to reward those students showing academic excellence and a desire to pursue a career in the welding fabricating industry. The award will be presented to each recipient during his/her final year of studies and is accompanied by a certificate.
Submission and Award Periods
Applications for the bursaries are accepted during the months of October and November with a cut off date of the last day of November. Bursary recipients are advised during the month of February of the following year and awarded to recipients during their final term of that year.
Instructions:
1. Complete and sign the Application Form below and e-mail to the Program Coordinator at your College along with your digital photograph and letter of introduction.
2. Instruct the Program Coordinator to include a copy of your most recent academic transcript and a recommendation from a staff member with your submission.
3. Submissions are to be sent by your Program Coordinator to the CWB Group before the cut-off date by e-mail to: hilary.barton@cwbgroup.org.
4. Submissions are to include the completed application form, letter of introduction, digital photograph, copy of academic transcript and a recommendation from a staff member.
