CGSB Certification through NRCan

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) certifies individuals according to the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) Standard CAN/CGSB-48.9712.  A full overview of the NDT certification program, including application forms, fee information and examination guides offered through NRCan can be found here.

INTEG training courses not only meet but also exceed the mandatory theoretical training requirements of CAN/CGSB-48.9712-2006, IAEA Techdoo 628, and NRCan curricula. INTEG courses also include extensive hands-on practical training. 

INTEG offers CGSB Level 1 certification training for the following methods:

• Ultrasonic
• Radiography

Our current training courses for CGSB Level 1 Certification.

Basic Requirements for NDT Certification through NRCan:   

•  
Successful completion of a recognized and acceptable training course (minimum 40 hours for RT and UT).
• 
3 months of on-the-job experience for RT and UT.
  Successful completion of NRCan theoretical and practical examinations.
  
Completion of Code of Conduct agreement.
  Completion of vision test requirements.

  Completion of NRCan Math examination.
  Completion of NRCan Materials and Processes examination.

INTEG Prerequisites for RT training courses:  

Current CEDO certificate (for RT).

Successful completion of the NRCan Math examination.
Successful completion of NRCan Materials and Processes examination

INTEG offers Level 2 certification training for the following methods:

• Magnetic Particle
• Liquid Penetrant
• Ultrasonic
• Radiography

Our current training courses for CGSB Level 2 Certification.    

Basic Requirements for NDT Certification through NRCan:  
Successful completion of a recognized and acceptable training course (minimum additional 80 hours for RT and UT; minimum 40 hours for MP and LP)
 An additional 9 months of on-the-job experience as a certified Level 1 for RT and UT
• 
4 months of on-the-job experience for MP and LP
• 
Successful completion of NRCan theoretical and practical examinations.
• 
Completion of Code of Conduct agreement
Completion of vision test requirements
 Completion of NRCan Math examination.
 Completion of NRCan Materials and Processes examination.

CEDO and Industrial Radiographer Information

Obtaining CEDO (Certified Exposure Device Operator) certification is the first step in becoming an Industrial Radiographer. There are five steps to becoming a Certified Exposure Device Operator (CEDO):

1. Successful completion of a recognized and acceptable training course (minimum 40 hours).  Our Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety & Protection Training courses satisfy this requirement.
2. Successful completion of the Certified Exposure Device Operator (CEDO) examination administered by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).
3. Completion of 320 hours on-the-job experience.
4. A practical examination administered by the employer, in accordance with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) requirements.
5. Payment of application fees to CNSC (current fee is $1000.00).

Note that when hiring new personnel, a majority of employers require completion of Step 1 above.
